Vision & Philosophy

Vision

The Learning Center exists to provide an extended Christian education experience for toddlers to preschool age children in a loving and licensed facility. Our vision is to:

  • foster age appropriate intellectual, physical and spiritual development
  • assist preschoolers in their development of social and emotional skills
  • build confidence in learning during the fundamental preschool years
  • meet each child on their developmental level and scaffold their learning in a positive environment.

We want to provide each child with a structured schedule in which they learn everyday skills in a group setting, The Learning Center encourages direct experiences in which the child is free to explore their environment through play-based learning. We strive to accommodate each child's intellectual, social and physical needs during our interest-driven learning centers.

Philosophy

We believe that each person is created by God with value and unique potential. Therefore, The Learning Center provides an environment where each child has opportunities to develop a sense of self–worth and his/her own unique gifts.

  • Teachers seek to apply developmentally appropriate norms to their teaching while taking into account individual differences, interests, and needs. They seek to provide a balanced curriculum that encourages both freedom and directed experience within defined limits.
  • Children learn most effectively when they become directly involved in their own learning.
  • Children have the ability and initiative to make decisions for their own learning and to choose their level of interest, involvement and consequences.
  • Education of the whole child emphasizes habits of personal care, motor skills, social skills, emotional development, spiritual development, behavioral skills, language and intellectual skills.
  • Children are naturally curious and eager to explore their environment freely. The more senses they use in learning the more of that learning they will retain.
  • Play is key to early childhood development and is a young child’s work.
  • An environment that communicates trust, kindness, warmth, courtesy, respect, openness, and security builds a child’s confidence and is the best milieu in which to learn.
  • The development and growth of childern is directly connected to the family and their community. Teachers work in partnership with each child’s family, seeking to keep positive lines of communication open at all times.

Through the education process we:

We believe that each person is created by God with value and unique potential. Therefore, The Learning Center provides an environment where each child has opportunities to develop a sense of self–worth and his/her own unique gifts.

  • Explore the meaning of living together. We teach that each person has rights and that we value the rights of others in our class, community and family.
  • See the world as good. Marveling at Creation, we rejoice in the changing seasons and recognize how dependent our world is on God.
  • Learn how to care for ourselves, plants, animals, and our world.
  • Learn to appreciate types of music, dance and movement, art mediums and expressions.
  • Learn to recognize emotions and the cause/effect that we have on others. We name the children’s actions so they begin to know what sharing, love, and kindness mean.
